In Order To Survive, I Must Play The Role Of A God – Chapter 1

T/N: This novel was recommended to me by Courtney. Thank you for bringing this awesome story to my attention!

And yes, I know I’ve told several of you that I wouldn’t work on three projects at once again, but you should never believe me. I sit on a throne of lies.

The Great Ning Dynasty.

On the eighth day of the fifth month of the year of Chongli, Emperor Yingzong passed away.

The fifth prince, Bai Lihong, succeeded the throne and the reign title was changed to “Jingrui.”

The new emperor was young, and in order to ensure the safety of the country, Qin Xiao, the head of the Qin family and the commander of the Qin Family Army, was appointed as regent to assist in state affairs, and was given the title “Ning.”

In the following ten years, Ning-wang[1] devoted himself to teaching the young emperor, reforming the civil service, and improving the livelihoods of the common people. Under the guise of “assisting the government,” he carried out the duties of a monarch…..

Slender, jade-pale fingers brushed across the page of a book and came to rest on the name “Qin Xiao.”

Regent. This was the perfect identity for a villain.

Chu Jiubian had only read the beginning of the novel, but he could already tell that the protagonist would be Emperor Bai Lihong, and that this Ning-wang Qin Xiao was the biggest villain in the whole text.

According to other readers, Qin Xiao was a sinister and cunning, vicious and brutal character who killed without blinking an eye. Apart from his impressive political achievements, he was completely devoid of humanity.

Devoid of humanity?

Then he would just have to see for himself.

Chu Jiubian was just about to continue reading when the door of the nanny car opened from the outside.

In an instant, the unique sounds of a movie set rushed into the vehicle.

The assistant reminded him: “Chu-ge, the director asked you to get ready for the wire work in your next scene.”

Chu Jiubian’s eyes drooped slightly as he looked at the book in his hands. He happened to read: [Ning-wang Qin Xiao led his army to defeat a border kingdom in the western regions and was seriously injured. It took him three months to recover.]

He closed the book.

Chu Jiubian got up and exited the car, moving toward the designated location.

His silver-white boots tread across the ground, and the gorgeous, intricate jewels and silver ornaments he was wearing collided with his movements in a disordered series of clinking sounds.

Everyone involuntarily glanced to the side.

The young man in the center of their vision was wearing Western-style aristocratic robes, silver-white in color and embellished with a light gauze. The jewel-studded belt wrapped around his hips emphasized his slender waistline, and his right shoulder was adorned with high-quality silver fox fur connected to a lustrous cape that reached down to his ankles.

His features were as aloof as a painting. His light-hued pupils were as indifferent as inorganic matter, which made his peach blossom eyes, which should have been passionate, appear somewhat cold and apathetic. His short, fine hair was jet-black and shiny, but the hair on the back of his head was left very long, though not past his waistline.

At present, that long hair was dyed silver-white and braided into a long tail as thin as a girl’s wrist and adorned with a silver chain inlaid with diamonds. Paired with the makeup and Chu Jiubian’s pale, beautiful face, there was a hint of androgynous divinity.

Chu Jiubian could clearly sense the gazes from all directions, and could even pinpoint those who were secretly taking photos of him with their cellphones.

However, he had such a face and was an actor, so he had long been accustomed to such gazes. At this moment, he stood calmly at the designated location and swiftly donned his wire equipment.

He wanted to finish early and get home early, so that he could go back to reading his novel.

Very soon, at the director’s call, he slowly rose into the air.

The filming location was in the mountains.

In this scene, the high priest played by Chu Jiubian would appear in front of the protagonist for the first time, descending from the sky in an artistically beautiful way.

This scene had no requirements except for one – it must be beautiful.

The filming must be beautiful, the movements must be beautiful, and the person must be even more beautiful.

In order to make it realistic and good-looking, the wire must be hung at the highest point.

Chu Jiubian was a little afraid of heights. As his body rose higher and higher, he couldn’t help but look down.

The dense crowd of people and equipment on the ground grew smaller and smaller.

This was almost two hundred meters. If he fell, wouldn’t he be smashed to pieces?

Blood and flesh would splatter, and the jewelry on his body would be embedded in the gore. Some of them would scatter, leaving trails of blood.

Chu Jiubian felt himself tremble slightly as the cold wind made his figure sway. The jingling of his silver jewelry drowned out the distorted groans of the old wire equipment.

His hair swept across his eyes, and he raised a hand to brush it away.

All of a sudden, his body dropped heavily and he was reined in tightly by the wire cable.

Chu Jiubian groaned at the dull pain in his waist. His form swayed even more violently, like a maple leaf struggling hard in late autumn to avoid falling into the mud.

He turned his head upward, and the bright, early summer sun shined into his eyes.

Squinting, he realized that one of the two cables had broken, leaving him barely hanging on by the other.

The crowd below seemed to be screaming. The cable was slowly lowering, trying to send him back to the ground.

However, less than two seconds later, there was a loud noise as the only remaining cable inexplicably broke.

The utmost feeling of weightlessness came over him, and his long silver braid suddenly stretched out. The silver chain in his hair also rose up due to inertia, leaving a shallow bloody mark on the side of his ear.

Chu Jiubian’s mind was somewhat unreactive.

No way?

How could he be burdened with such bad luck?

Before he could recall his short life of twenty-one years, he heard the intermittent crackling sound of electricity in his mind.

Then, a cold mechanical voice rang out.

[Unusual causal magnetic field detected…..correction in progress…..correction successful. System bound.]

[“Causality System” has been renamed to “Great Ning Dynasty System.” Host, please collect faith points and correct causality.]

On the ninth day of the sixth month of the year of Jingrui, at the hour of Mao.

Inside the Heart Palace, all officials stood in front of the ranking podium with their heads bowed.

Thirty-nine white jade steps extended upward, and at the heart of the highest point stood a small figure three heads tall.

The small person was wearing golden dragon robes. This was the young Emperor Bai Lihong, who was about to ascend the throne.

Bai Lihong licked his dry lips and nervously scanned the silent crowd of people bowing their heads at the foot of the long staircase.

Official robes in crimson-purple, scarlet, and dark blue extended back in an orderly manner with a clear hierarchy.

Behind Bai Lihong was a majestic hall.

A gilded plaque that read “Fengtian Hall” hung by silver hooks on red pillars. Through the wide-open palace doors, one could vaguely see the four large characters “Qian Shu Cheng Yun”[2] on the golden dragon throne in the hall.

Gong—

A long bell resounded throughout heaven and earth. The overseer of the Imperial Observatory chanted a resonant blessing with a jade slip held in his hand.

The innocent young emperor couldn’t understand these profound words, and couldn’t help but look toward a position ten steps forward to his left.

In that place stood a tall, well-built man with his back to the young emperor. His black hair was tied up high with a jade guan, and he wore black and gold python robes, which symbolized the highest power a subject could possess.

This was Ning-wang Qin Xiao.

He was Bai Lihong’s only close family member now, his biological uncle who loved him the most, and the regent who would assist him in state affairs.

Bai Lihong calmed down and looked straight ahead again.

Heaven and earth were silent, with only the loud, sonorous voice of the Overseer of the Imperial Observatory echoing around.

An unknown amount of time passed, and when Bai Lihong’s short legs began to tremble and beads of sweat ran down his forehead, the coronation ceremony finally reached its last step — a kowtow from all of the officials.

With a loud shout, the officials below the long steps lowered themselves to their knees and folded their arms across their chests, waiting for the call of “kowtow” to bow in submission.

No matter whether or not they were willing, and no matter how many twists and turns their minds took, the fact that the three-year-old child had ascended the throne and a relative of Qin Xiao was in power was already set in stone.

Qin Xiao’s deep eyes swept across the crowd, and as expected, his gaze met those of the first and second rank officials in the front.

These old foxes each appeared calmer than the next, but only they themselves knew what they harbored in their hearts.

An ambiguous smile appeared at the corners of Qin Xiao’s lips, and he withdrew his gaze to face the emperor.

When he met the emperor’s innocent eyes, full of trust and dependence, Qin Xiao’s cold expression eased slightly.

He lifted his skirts, about to bend down and kowtow to the new emperor along with all of the officials.

However, just at this time, an untimely, even bizarre ringing sound met his ears.

A fierce look immediately entered his eyes, and he looked up toward the ceiling.

But in the next moment, his arms were lifted up by an inexplicable force. At the same time, a flash of white passed before his eyes and a weight that was neither light nor heavy pressed into his arms.

The weight in his arms was warm and silky to the touch, as if someone had fallen into his embrace.

A whiff of fragrance wafted to the tip of his nose. Qin Xiao’s body was stiff, and he was unable to move. All he could do was look into his arms.

Suddenly, his deep gaze met a pair of light-hued eyes.

Chu Jiubian’s mind buzzed, and a cold mechanical voice said intermittently: [Suitable landing site prepared for Host…..safe landing achieved.]

Suitable landing site?

Speechless, Chu Jiubian stared at the handsome face close at hand.

His rationality and clarity returned, and his five senses came back online. He realized belatedly that his hands seemed to be pressed against something hard.

He grasped it subconsciously, his gaze following the movement of his hands.

Under his palms lay fine-textured fabric, beneath which were the fine contours of muscle.

Chu Jiubian: “…..”

He finally realized that he seemed to be touching and pinching the chest muscles of his “safe landing site.”

“Wow!” A child’s clear voice suddenly rang out, saying with a tone of pleasant surprise: “It’s a fairy-gege!”

Chu Jiubian’s heart trembled slightly.

He turned his head toward the sound in horror.

Not far away, he saw a three-head-tall little kid wearing a well-fitted dragon robe, small hands clasped to his chest as he stared at him with bright eyes.

When their eyes met, the little kid even flushed in excitement.

Where had this kid come from?

Chu Jiubian’s mind was whirling, but he accurately captured the most important points.

For example, the “Great Ning Dynasty” mentioned by the System, the little kid wearing dragon robes in front of him, and his “landing site” buddy.

Excluding himself as a variable, why did the scene before him look so much like the coronation ceremony in the book he was just reading?

Could this child in front of him be the young emperor, Bai Lihong?

Chu Jiubian subconsciously turned his head to look over the shoulder of his “landing site.”

In an instant, towering palace walls and a crowd of ancient-times people kneeling upright came into view.

Those people seemed to have no reaction to the sudden event, or for some other reason, didn’t react at the outset. They just looked over with various expressions, their eyes full of inquiry.

Oh my god!

Chu Jiubian’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

It was confirmed. He had transmigrated into the book at the moment of his death.

But if this was the coronation ceremony of the male protagonist Bai Lihong, then the guy who could stand on the high platform with the emperor and had the ill fortune of being his “landing site” must be…..

The cold mechanical voice sounded in his mind again: [Detecting fatal attack aimed at Host. Please take care.]

A fatal attack?

Take care?!

What the hell!

Chu Jiubian felt as if he had fallen into an icy cave. He slowly withdrew his gaze and looked back at the person holding him.

Murderous intent flashed in the man’s cold black eyes, and undisguised malice and oppression pressed down on Chu Jiubian with overwhelming force.

At the same time, Chu Jiubian felt a dull pain in his legs and waist. The person holding him was slowly tightening his arms, and if he exerted more force, he might crush him to pieces.

Qin Xiao!

That murderous lunatic!

Chu Jiubian’s scalp tingled. His heart pounded wildly, and the sensation of being so close to death made him instinctively tremble.

However, the System chose this opportune time to suddenly play a cheery notification jingle in his mind. Then the mechanical voice returned and said in a businesslike manner:

[Friendly reminder: In fifteen minutes, a heavy rainstorm will hit and last 24 hours. The weather has been changeable recently, so please keep warm and bring an umbrella when going out.]

He saw Qin Xiao’s eyes narrow slightly, and the piercing murderous intent and pain in his legs and waist were clearly transmitted to his nerve endings. In a flash, Chu Jiubian thought of a way to break this deadlock.

It was risky, but if it worked, the benefits would be immense.

With this in mind, some light finally returned to his shimmering eyes.

Qin Xiao noticed that his stiff limbs were slowly returning to normal. His expression was calm, but his heart was not at all at peace.

The person in his arms had appeared so suddenly, as had the stiffness and loss of control of his limbs. Everything about this was bizarre.

But it was a certainty that the abnormality of his body was related to the person in his arms.

Such an incredibly dangerous variable must not be allowed to remain.

As he pondered, Qin Xiao once again met the gaze of the person he was holding.

Those eyes were light-hued and somewhat blank and boundless.

But in the next moment, he saw those eyes become profound, with a smile that didn’t reach to their depths.

Chu Jiubian’s smiling eyes steadily met the man’s cold, dangerous gaze, and he said unhurriedly: “It seems you are this god’s love tribulation.”

His clear, bright voice hovered in the realm between young adulthood and adolescence, capturing one’s attention the moment he opened his mouth.

“This god…..” He paused briefly, and his smile grew wider. “…..is very satisfied.”

That’s right, he was going to pretend to be a god!

  1. I feel like we’re reenacting a famous meme from my country: an elderly man accidentally clicked that he was in a relationship with another man who commented “what is this?” (in this “what does that mean”) to which the old man replied “sorry, something was clicked” (it’s funnier like this, because it sounds like he didn’t clikcked anything, but some mysterious force did that”) XDDD I wanted to ask “what is this?” and I could hear You saing “it did it itself” haha~ .·°՞(˃ ᗜ ˂)՞°·. Well, I can guess why You decied to translate this novel as it has a great plot and I can”t wait to read more! ♡⸜(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)⸝♡ Sadly, I can’t read in my new work, so I listened to all chapters, but couldn’t comment! ૮(˶ㅠ︿ㅠ)ა Well, hope I will able to read more on my way on regular basis ><
